Fisher House

Supporting America's military in their time of need, they provide "a home away from home" that enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time -- during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Learn more about the Fisher House here.

Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation's greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world.  Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds. Learn more about the Wounded Warrior Project here.

Virginia Purple Heart Quilt

Susan Palmer of the Smith Mountain Republican Women has made the Virginia Purple Heart Quilt (see photo on right).  It is beautiful and will be displayed at the NFRW Convention in September, 2011.  This quilt will honor the women who have received Purple Hearts and will be displayed in an appropriate place in Virginia after the convention.  We thank Susan for this labor of love.  Please visit the Smith Mountain Republican Women Club's web site for more on the Virginia Purple Heart Quilt.

The Virginia elements.....

The Purple Heart was started by Pres. George Washington...a Virginian.
The corner blocks are called Jacob's Ladder or Underground Railroad....the latter has much significance for all the Civil War battles fought on our soil.
The small block to the right (your left as you look at it) of the ribbon is The Star of Virginia.
The block on the left (right as you see it) is the Virginia Reel (aka Dutchman's Puzzle)
The label on the back is the outline of the state of Virginia.
