Dear VFRW Members,

My sincere apologies for the delay in bringing you a fully revamped Members area today.  Over the weekend a technical issue was discovered that had not appeared previously.  That issue is currently being worked on by our website hosting service provider.  A resolution could be only a few hours away but it could also take a few days to resolve.

I ask you for your continued patience.  During this brief period of time access to Club Newsletters and VFRW documents and forms will be unavailable.  If there is something that you must have right away please email me at webmaster@vfrw.org.

Again my apologies for the delay,

Stephanie

In Memoriam

Carole Lee Lowman, died September 18, 2007

From Deegee Watling, 10th District Representative

Carole Lowman, Immediate Past President of the Potomac Republican Women’s Club, died this month. She was one of the most vocal, enthusiastic, forthright, funny and considerate people I ever knew. If she was in the room, you knew it! Her personality was infectious and her ideas, her own. They were not off the wall. No, I don’t mean that. She held herself to a strict code of behavior and expected the same from others. So many of us shrug off the behavior of others. Not Carole! If someone said he would do something, she expected him to do it. Fine!! We used to live that way, didn’t we?

I am sure she brought up her two children with high expectations. They reflect a wonderful upbringing. Yesterday I met them as we gathered to celebrate her life. They, Cary and Chris, planned a beautiful event for their mother. She would have been very proud. After a delicious dinner, several people spoke of their association with Carole. I felt I know her pretty well beforehand but now I even know her better. When she wasn’t working or being a dynamic part of the Potomac Club, she was either golfing, bowling, watching sports on TV, or making afghans for Project Linus. Wow! She was busy!

The Potomac Club had a difficult time in the summer of 2004 as a few of their Board Members left their positions and the Club. One was the President. The remainder of the Board stayed together and elected Carole to step in as President. It was not easy but she did it and did it very well. She even stayed on for a second year. The Club has held together beautifully in a large part due to her energetic and caring approach to whatever project or job she has committed to do. When ever I asked the Presidents in the Tenth District to take on an action, I knew I would get help from Carole. Do you remember the centerpieces she and her Club made for the 2005 Convention? They were so popular Carole had to tell those who didn’t get them where she got the material and how she made them. She was very kind.

How did a person as young as Carole die? In August, she found out that she had terminal cancer. At first she was told she had one year to live. A few weeks later it was shortened to 48 hours as it had spread to four areas. She died ten days later. Her wonderful children were with her. I hope her two very young grandchildren will remember her vital spirit.

If you would like to do something in her memory, Cary and Chris suggest sending donations to Project Linus by visiting www.projectlinus.org/donations.

Jo Ann Davis, died October 6, 2007

Excerpt from Sheila Noll, 1st District Representative

Dear ones, It is with great sadness that again I must share with you the death of a distinguished member of VFRW.  Our congresswoman Jo Ann Davis passed away after a valiant struggle with breast cancer.  Her courage and stubbornness to fight this dreaded disease has earned our utmost admiration and respect ... if only she could have won this battle - as she has won others.  Please keep Chuck and the boys in your prayers.  Read her obituary

Clubs Launch New Websites Over The Summer

Congratulations to the Western Fairfax Republican Women's Club and Mount Vernon Republican Women on launching new websites for your club over the summer!

Surfing the internet is one of the primary ways people with computers and internet access find information.  In fact, the Generation Y demographic born between 1976 - 2001 (also known as Echo Boomers, The Millennials or the Internet Generation) grew up using the internet.  What used to take hours or days researching books in a library can take a fraction of that time on the internet; making it a powerful and effective communication and recruiting tool.

Enjoy exploring these club websites!  If your club has a website but it isn't hyperlinked on either the Alpha List of Clubs or the Clubs by District pages please contact your VFRW webmaster.
